About the Role

Flatbed Business Development Specialist
Full-Time

Toronto, ON

 

The Business Development Specialist is responsible for the reduction of empty miles and filling backhaul on Flatbeds. Additionally responsible for the acquisition of net new accounts and lead generation for National Accounts Team. The purpose of this impact role is to increase communication, generate revenue, support Operations and further grow Day & Ross Flatbed.

 

How You’ll Help

  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clientele; establish a high level of personal credibility with key client business partners in assigned account base
  • Research and gain an understanding of the clients’ industries; understand client business strategies and challenges
  • Identify, develop, and close new solution opportunities that result in substantial growth in Day & Ross shares, revenues and margins
  • Mine inactive accounts and existing accounts to uncover opportunity
  • Manage day-to-day relationship of assigned customer base by developing a high value-add relationship with key decision maker/buyer
  • Work closely with the Operations Group in order to anticipate load requirements
  • Build a solid tap account list; identify short-term and long-term sales, retention and expansion of existing business and net new opportunities
  • Provide prospects/accounts with the benefits, pricing, transit time and any other information needed to secure the business
  • Maintain data in Customer Relationship Managements system

 

Your Skills & Experience:

  • Post-secondary education, preferably in logistics or business administration
  • A suitable combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in transportation or operations
  • Flatbed sales experience required
  • Regional experience and connection within the Ontario client base
  • US Flatbed experience an asset
  • Proactive thinker with the ability to correctly anticipate and identify customer needs, decisively solve problems, generate new ideas and implement plans to meet customer requirements
  • Continuous improvement approach
  • Must be proficient in MS Outlook, Excel & Word; web based programs, AS400 – an asset; must possess the aptitude for learning new programs
  • Strong customer service focus, relationship building skills and conflict resolution skills
  • Advanced communication skills including the ability to relay information (verbal and written) between several parties and deliver a positive customer experience
  • Exceptional judgment and decision making
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving skills, the ability to evaluate current situation, respond quickly to changing requirements, execute and escalate accordingly
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced , deadline-driven setting
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a deadline driven environment; appropriate sense of urgency
  • Ability to work independently and to collaborate with others to meet customer expectations
  • May be required to visit other locations, including offices, terminals, maintenance shops, etc.
