McCain Food’s Appetizer facility in Plover, WI is a large-scale food processing plant manufacturing a wide variety of specialty appetizer products including mozzarella sticks, cheese curds, and other appetizers. Employing approximately 200 employees, there are many opportunities to advance and grow while making fun food!

Position Summary:


This position works closely with the shift supervisor to ensure production goals are met in a safe manner. The Production Lead directs employee work on the line as well as support the shift supervisor. Additionally, the position assists in the development, coordination, and delivery of department training. Performs work as assigned to include vacation coverage as back-up for Supervisor




Key Responsibilities:


  • Oversee production line and ensure employees under direct supervision are performing at a satisfactory level, meeting safety, quality and production goals.
  • Attention to all aspects of the employee’s duties that impact food quality and safety is required.
  • Expected to follow Good Manufacturing Practices at all times.
  • Expected to report all concerns about food quality and safety to his/ her immediate supervisor.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the food safety and quality program, including the Business Continuity Plan, that are related to the employee’s duties.
  • Anticipates and resolves personnel problems to minimize production issues.
  • Maintains good housekeeping and enforces safe work practices.
  • Responsible for communicating changes/ schedules to production employees.
  • Confirms product specifications and requirements are met via quality control measurements.
  • Identifies problems or bottlenecks on the production line and resolves the issues.
  • Ensures production resources including materials, equipment, and human resources are available to meet and maintain production schedules.
  • Ensure daily manufacturing documents are completed and are accurate.
  • Ensure that team members are working in accordance with established food safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrate and display appropriate work ethics in the workplace and group settings which provides a positive influence on employees.
  • Complies and enforces that safety standards and methods (e.g. lock-out/ tag-out, proper lifting techniques, etc.) are being followed.
  • Supports continuous improvement goals in safety, quality, and quantity.
  • Perform any/ all duties as directed by a manager; within safe working conditions.
  • Adapt to changing production schedules and ensure resources are available on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Standard computer skills are necessary.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and its application.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and make needed corrections.


  • Post-high school education and/ or five years of production experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Possession of at least two years of production experience, preferably in a food manufacturing facility, is required.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions both written and oral as well as read and interpret schedules related to production/ product schedules and line changeovers.
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate in Basic English and interact with all levels of the organization. Must be able to enter data into a computer.


  • Must be able to stand for up to 8 hours per shift and lift up to 35 pounds.


Physical Demand:


Constant: use and movement of hands and standing on regularly scheduled shift.


Frequently: Bending, grasping of hands, and reaching for up to 3 -6 hours daily.


Occasionally: Walking, bending at the waist, squatting, kneeling, and twisting at the neck and waist, pushing and pulling for up to 3 hours a day.
