Position Summary:

 

Supervise maintenance and repair activities in areas assigned by the Maintenance Manager.  Direct all facets of maintenance in assigned areas to ensure maximum operational potential is safely sustained.  Minimize maintenance expenditures as able and facilitate prompt repair of failed equipment.

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support site safety programs and objectives.  Provide for a safe working environment.
  • Direct maintenance activities for physical equipment and facilities to ensure proper operational utilization.
  • Maintain and progressively improve a Preventive Maintenance program by use of the CMMS system (SAP). 
  • Investigate and, where possible, eliminate mechanical or maintenance problems that could affect manufacturing schedules and volumes.
  • Take timely and appropriate corrective action to control unfavorable expenditure trends that could result in exceeding expense budgets.
  • Prepare and submit reports on a timely basis as requested, including Key Performance Indicators, and annual operating and capital budgets, and work within these budget guidelines.
  • Diligently work on, and strive for, operational efficiency through cost improvement programs, continuous improvement, and other mechanisms for cost improvement.
  • Conduct special projects as assigned, or perform self-initiated projects designed to improve departmental services.
  • Develop departmental employee relations through continual communication of relevant information and by conducting departmental safety meetings to promote a safe and healthful working attitude.
  • Maintain open lines of communication between departments and employees.

The Supervisor interacts with internal maintenance and operations workers, as well as external contractors and consultants, to ensure effective maintenance of all equipment in assigned areas. In performing these functions, the Supervisor’s lateral relationships take on significance to ensure attainment of facility and departmental objectives.

 

The Supervisor will consult with the Engineering Manager and Maintenance Manager to identify improvements to current maintenance methods and operational procedures.  The objective is to assist operations in realizing the highest dollar return on equipment investments through adherence to proper operating procedures, preventive maintenance techniques, work order execution, etc.

 

The Supervisor must be willing and able to direct all aspects of maintenance activities in assigned areas with minimal managerial oversight. 

 

The Supervisor must establish and maintain a high degree of decision-making autonomy to initiate unplanned and planned corrective actions, since there are occasions where the time for formal review of planned actions is not practical, inasmuch as delays could adversely affect safety conditions or factory operations.

 

The Supervisor must have a general working knowledge of factory operations including, but not limited to, raw product receiving; processing; packaging; freezing; waste treatment; environmental operations; boiler operations; etc.  Supervisory experience is preferred in frozen food manufacturing.  A strong technical background in maintenance is required and general proficiency in fluid power, electrical, robotics, and PLCs is preferred.  Strong communication skills are mandatory.  Project supervision experience is beneficial. 

 

For purposes of continuing education and professional development, the Supervisor should attend select trade shows; meetings involving engineering experts from other companies and potential vendors; informational seminars; and other training courses that present current information on manufacturing and maintenance fields. The Supervisor should subscribe to and review periodicals and trade magazines relevant to the functions of this position.
