About the Role



Surrey, BC


This position is responsible for dispatching units to pickup and deliver freight, while monitoring the performance of drivers and ensuring customer timelines are met. The city dispatcher is also required to operate as part of a team to ensure on time delivery of product to our customers.



How You’ll Help


  • Arrange deliveries for the day, assign pick up requests and enter orders in system
  • Set up appointment freight, manifest shipments, coordinate ETA’s with Central, check for expedited shipments and enter any missed pick-ups
  • Dispatch drivers
  • Issue keys, phones, scanners, paperwork, fuel cards
  • Obtain required sign offs for phones, fuel cards and maintain files
  • Go over any vehicle issues, arrange subs / repairs as needed
  • Arrange for additional truck equipment i.e. straps, load bars
  • Dispatch additional daily shipments, Vulcan, WPEC etc., to drivers
  • Perform dock and yard checks, ensure freight is not missed and trucks are on delivery
  • Coordinate drivers to back for second run of deliveries, manifest skeleton and make linehaul orders
  • Coordinate local P&D requirements
  • Maintain communication for status reports on correct loading by unit and timely departures
  • Upload Scanners and set up of scanners
  • Ensure accurate reporting
  • Work with Safety & Compliance rep on driver and safety issues
  • Ensure driver concerns reported into dispatch are responded to and closed off within reasonable or expected timelines

Your Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of secondary education, with preference of post-secondary education (general stream), or a combination of education and experience.
  • Previous Transportation or operational experience is preferred, various roles within transportation would be beneficial
  • Transportation background in dispatching, dock operations
  • Ability to work under a flexible work schedule
  • Computer skills; MS Office, ability to learn new programs, platforms
  • Team orientation; willing to participate and support all aspects of operation
  • Must be a self-starter with a strong sense of urgency and priority management
  • Strong customer focus, with ability to build and maintain positive relationships
  • Must have strong communication skills
  • English, additional languages are considered assets
