Position Title: Production Supervisor - 2nd shift 

Position Type: Regular - Full-Time ​

SUMMARY

Provide guidance and leadership to production personnel to promote achievement of plant objectives.   Manage labor, material, and overhead costs within budgeted standards.  Ensure finished product meets customer requirements.  Develop teams that are self-managing, motivated, and innovative.  Through coaching, training, and recognition, create an environment of continuous improvement.  Provide development opportunities for team members.  Attend required plant training programs per the training schedule.  Deliver selected training programs as required.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

SAFETY

*  Maintain a safe and productive work environment for employees by ensuring that they receive training on and follow plant safety policies and procedures.

*  Ensure that employees have and properly use Personal Protective Equipment and safety devices.

*  Serve as an active member of the core and shift safety teams.

*  Take corrective action when unsafe conditions or acts are identified, and investigate accidents and near misses.  Use continuous improvement (McCain Competitive Edge) tools to determine the root cause, and develop and implement permanent solutions to prevent recurrence.

*  In emergencies, direct control efforts and evacuation / reentry.

*  Coach employees on doing  Behavior Observations and enable their participation in the program.

 

QUALITY

*  Ensure that all employees on the shift follow Good Manufacturing Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, and other requirements regarding quality and food safety.

*  Monitor product quality and take appropriate action to prevent or limit production of out-of-spec products.

*  Use continuous improvement tools to determine the root cause of quality defects, and develop and implement permanent solutions to prevent recurrence.

 

DELIVERY

*  Direct the shift to achieve standard throughputs on all products.

*  Minimize operational downtime.

*  Ensure that equipment is running efficiently.  Work with maintenance to correct deficiencies and minimize mechanical downtime. 

*  Manage the process for testing new equipment and products.

*  Maintain effective customer / supplier relationship, both within and outside the production team.

 

COST

*  Direct the shift to meet budgeted standards for labor, materials, and overhead costs.

*  Develop and monitor assigned spending and labor budgets.

*  Use continuous improvement (McCain Competitive Edge) tools to determine the root cause of inefficiencies, and develop and implement permanent solutions to prevent recurrence.

*  Lead or support continuous improvement efforts.

*  Audit the daily process to ensure Standard Operating Procedures and Standard Work are followed, Statistical Process Control is utilized, and proper documentation is completed.

*  Train and coach employees on 5S, and insure sustainment of the program.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR/SPECIAL PROJECTS

*  Manage daily warehouse, shipping, and receiving functions.

*  Substitute for or assist shift supervisors.

*  Complete special projects that move the business forward. 

*  Lead Statistical Process Control training and development.

*  Function as plant resource for the packaging area.

*  Develop training materials and provide training.

*  Coordinate efforts with others.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Three to five years' supervisory experience (preferably in frozen food manufacturing) and a bachelor degree or equivalent experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, customers, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles.  The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.  The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud when on the production floor and moderate while in the front office area.

 

TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED 

The tools and equipment described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.    While performing the duties of this job, the employee would use the following tools and equipment:  computer, copier, calculator, pen or pencil, and telephone.

 

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT 

Employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment when in the plant's food processing areas.
