Position Title: Supervisor Production - D shift

SUMMARY

Supervises and coordinates activities of packaging workers within the production department on an assigned shift.  Your participation in the continuous improvement process is required, as you are a member of the leadership team at the facility.  Activities desired in your role as a member of the leadership team are safety audits, quality, process improvement initiatives, employee training, and upgrading your employees and your own current skills.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promotes and adheres to company safety work rules and regulations.
  • Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments of machines.
  • Coordinates with the production department for production scheduling and uniform product flow.
  • Studies packaging schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Oversees all of the tote room activities and procedures ensuring a smooth and efficient operation.
  • Communicates specifications and job orders to workers and assigns duties.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department or work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Attends and participates in all annual, departmental, and job specific required training and monthly informational meetings.
  • Communicates any problems or changes in production or quality to supervisor and appropriate personnel.
  • Understands and adheres to the concepts and techniques of the quality process in order to ensure a quality operation.
  • Keeps area clean and orderly in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s).
  • Helps to build and promote a strong “Teamwork” environment in each individual work group, the Factory, and the Company.
  • Participates in continuous improvement process.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees in the packaging area. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

REPRESENTATION

SCOPE OF AUTHORITY

  • Has authority to start or stop lines in packaging under the direction of and accountable to the Shift Managers.       
  • Appropriates authorized budgeted amounts for packaging activities with the approval of the Shift Managers.   
  • Authority to hire and discipline employees in consultation with the Shift Managers and Human Resources.
  • Authority to utilize all resources including maintenance personnel to ensure proper repair and operation of packaging equipment
  • Authority to schedule and edit time for packaging employees
  • Authority to enforce McCain policies and procedures.
  • Authority to approve or refuse to package product based on safety, sanitation, equipment failure, and damaged equipment in consultation with the Shift Manager and the QA Department.
  • Responsibility to monitor work areas, watch for suspicious behavior and report any concerns regarding unidentified visitors and/or unauthorized personnel.
  • Authority to question and take appropriate measures regarding the safety of themselves, other employees, products, and equipment.
  • Responsibility of maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the food processing facility, especially where any raw or finished product is produced.
  • Authority to report and/or eliminate hazards to the safety of the food that is produced in the facility.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
