Position Title: Shift Manager 

Position Type: Regular - Full-Time ​

SUMMARY
Responsible for the management of all plant operations during assigned off shifts and all production operations during day shift assigned.  Provides supervision and training of receiving, processing and packaging employees.  Your participation in the continuous improvement process is required, as you are a member of the leadership team at the facility.  Activities desired in your role as a member of the leadership team are safety audits, quality, process improvement initiatives, employee training, and upgrading your employees and your own current skills.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 

  • Promotes and adheres to company safety work rules and regulations.
  • Provides direction to supervisors to maintain production goals, high quality, and limit held product. 
  • Communicates and coordinates the raw product attributed detailed in order to achieve target quality for finished products to Field Department. 
  • Provides training and supervision to insure that employees are performing assigned work properly.  
  • Coordinates employee scheduling with Human Resources Department to provide adequate staffing for production requirements.  
  • Monitors production to insure that safety, quality and cost standards are maintained.  
  • Evaluates subordinate performance, communicates with employees and provides information on improvement and development.
  • Monitors condition of processing equipment; communicates to Maintenance Department about any needed equipment repair.
  • Attends and participates in all annual, departmental, and job specific required training and monthly informational meetings.
  • Communicates with plant engineers and engine room to coordinate tunnel starts and shut downs.
  • Assumes responsibility for the entire production operation in the absence of Processing and Packaging Production Manager.
  • Enforces company work rules and safety guidelines.
  • Completes required paperwork, which includes shift reports.
  • Reviews Cold Storage IQ and product tote bin inventories to plan production schedules.
  • Communicates any problems or changes in production or quality to supervisor and appropriate personnel.
  • Understands and adheres to the concepts and techniques of the quality process in order to ensure a quality operation.
  • Keeps area clean and orderly in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and MCE 5-S Standards.
  • Helps to build and promote a strong “Teamwork” environment in each individual work group, the Factory, and the Company.
  • Participates in continuous improvement process.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 
Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in Product Receiving, Processing, and Packaging. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.
 
 Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Prefers experience with SAP, WMS or similar warehousing system, Six Sigma concepts and Root Cause Failure Analysis

 
LANGUAGE SKILLS
 
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
