The Plant Engineering Manager will be responsible for providing total maintenance and engineering support for all facilities associated with the Othello site to ensure maximum operational potential is realized. This position is fully on-site at our McCain plant in Othello, WA.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To provide direction for maintaining and operating all physical equipment and facilities to ensure proper utilization.
  • To investigate and, where possible, eliminate any mechanical or maintenance problem which would affect production schedules.
  • To take timely and appropriate corrective action to control unfavorable expenditure trends which would result in exceeding appropriation funding, expense budgets, etc.
  • To maintain and progressively improve a Preventive Maintenance Program.
  • To prepare and submit reports on a timely basis, including annual operating and capital budgets, and to work within these budget guidelines.
  • To diligently work on, and strive for, operational efficiency through McCain Quality Performance and other mechanisms for profitability.
  • To develop Departmental employee relations by continuing communication of all information affecting them and through the conducting of departmental safety meetings so as to develop a safe and healthful working attitude.
  • To maintain open lines of communications between departments and employees
  • Conduct special studies as assigned, or perform self-initiated studies designed to improve Departmental services with associated economics.
  • To direct or assist in the design of Factory improvement or capacity expansion projects.
  • To prepare, or assist in the preparation of, appropriations with memoranda of justification.
  • To maintain close follow-up cost data supplied by Finance Department.
  • To direct the sale of salvage materials to obtain maximum dollar return.
  • To maintain and coordinate an on-going management development program for the supervisory personnel to enhance their managerial potential.
  • To possess and keep current on the most advanced information of manufacturing maintenance and the overall maintenance area.
  • Oversee purchasing and stockroom operations in order to reduce costs.
  • Manager, or his/her designee, is responsible for annual and/or ongoing training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The incumbent works closely with each Staff member, in particular the incumbent has a continuing communicative relationship with the Production Managers, Field Manager, Quality Assurance Manager, Human Resources Business Partner, and their respective teams at all echelons.  
  • The incumbent outside contacts involves the establishment and maintenance of effective relationships with utility companies, insurance companies, and state and federal regulatory agencies. They establish and maintain a reasonable reservoir of desirable outside contractors and works closely with them in the factory areas where they may perform work. Incumbent is responsible for analyzing all factory purchases and to seek ways to reduce costs through negotiations with vendors.
  • The incumbent is expected to recommend to and consult with the Plant Manager and the Production Managers in planning for improvements to current methods or procedures to assist operations departments in realizing the highest dollar return on equipment investments through adherence to proper operation procedures, preventive maintenance techniques, project planning, setting work order priorities, work order control, etc. 
  • This position requires the incumbent to be available for consultation during all hours the site is under production as well as being available for weekend work on a routine basis. The incumbent must have established and must maintain a high degree of autonomy in their decision making and planned actions; there are occasions where the time for prior review of planned actions is not allowable as delays could have extremely adverse results to Factory operations. In most instances involving major proportions and impacts, recourse to prior review of planned actions is possible with the Plant Manager.
  • The incumbent works closely with the Senior Director of Engineering and their Staff as well as all interested parties in the design, modification, and installation of equipment in those projects having a major impact in the overall Company. They follow up closely to determine efficiency of operation, durability, and maintenance problems of new or modified equipment.
  • The incumbent and their Staff work closely with all interested Factory parties in the concepts, design, engineering, modification, and installation of equipment in those project having impact primarily in the Othello site.
  • The incumbent must have a general working knowledge of all site operations; including, but not limited to, raw product systems, processing, packaging, warehousing, freezing, waste treatment and handling, environmental regulations and operations, boiler operations, purchasing, etc. as well as the impact of each of these areas of overall Factory performance.
  • For purposes of “updating” the incumbent should attend carefully selected trade shows, meetings involving engineering people from other companies and potential vendors, select seminars, and other training courses which present up-to-date information on manufacturing and maintenance interest. Incumbent should also subscribe to and review periodicals and trade magazines relevant to the functions of this position.
  • The biggest challenge to this position is the full and efficient leadership of diverse individuals that are directly supervised by the incumbent.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university.
  • Experience: 3-5 years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

•    As a member of the leadership team at the facility, your participation in the continuous improvement process is expected.  This includes taking an active role in process improvement initiatives, employee training and upgrading your current skill base.

 

Salary Range: $135,000 - $145,000 USD annually + Benefits

The salary range reflects the minimum and maximum target for the position at the time of posting. Within the range, exact compensation will be determined based on education/training, skill set, experience, and other organizational needs.
