Position Title: Field Mechanic 

Position Type: Regular - Full-Time ​

SUMMARY

Diagnoses maintenance problems, installs and sets up equipment, reads and understand prints and schematics.  Advises supervisory personnel on maintenance requirements, repair equipment; helps train less skilled maintenance mechanics. Electrical background is necessary for this position (120, 240, & 480 volt)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promotes and adheres to company safety work rules and regulations.
  • Performs maintenance work, repair and adjustments of raw product receiving and hogging equipment; changes and replaces belts, sprockets, bearings, shafts, chains, motors, pumps, and troubleshoots and repairs electrical components as needed.
  • Performs structurally sound welding and acceptable cutting methods using appropriate welding equipment (tig, mig, stick, acetylene).
  • Reads, writes and communicates in English by using prints, sketches, diagrams, operating instructions and technical manuals.
  • Performs safe procedures for using chemicals.
  • Troubleshoots, performs minor repairs and maintenance of rolling stock.
  • Demonstrates within 30 days of job assignment, ownership of proper tools for the job as specified by the company.
  • Performs repairs on hydraulic equipment.
  • Cleans and lubricates parts as directed by equipment specifications.
  • Practices safety polices set up by the Company and the department.
  • May be required to transport equipment and machinery on flat bed trailer to remote storage sites.
  • Requires safe operation of Company owned vehicles.   
  • Communicates any problems or changes in production or quality to supervisor and appropriate personnel.
  • Attends and participates in all annual, departmental, and job specific required training and monthly informational meetings.
  • Understands and adheres to the concepts and techniques of the quality process in order to ensure a quality operation.
  • Keeps area clean and orderly in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s).
  • Helps to build and promote a strong “Teamwork” environment in each individual work group, the Factory, and the Company.
  • Participates in continuous improvement process.
  • Must adhere to the McCain Code of Conduct.
  • The employee may be required to successfully complete the orientation and training provided during the first ninety- (90) days of employment.

                                                                    

SCOPE OF AUTHORITY

  • Responsibility to monitor work areas, watch for suspicious behavior and report any concerns regarding unidentified visitors and/or unauthorized personnel.
  • Authority to question and take appropriate measures regarding the safety of themselves, other employees, products, and equipment.
  • Responsibility of maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the food processing facility, especially where any raw or finished product is produced.
  • Authority to report and/or eliminate hazards to the safety of the food that is produced in the facility.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions or diagram forms.  Ability to recognize and troubleshoot problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

CERTIFICATION, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid State Driver’s License.
  • Valid McCain Foods Forklift Operator’s License. 
  • CDL preferred, but not required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
