Category Manager – Retail

The Category Manager will play a critical role in establishing McCain Foods as a trusted Category Partner in Frozen Potato and Appetizers with strategic retailers.  This role will help develop these relationships by leading work-streams that build engagement, influence, collaboration and partnership.  Additionally, it will also function as a critical link between the organization and customer by being able to turn insights and strategies into actions that unlock category growth for both McCain and its customers.

Key responsibilities in category analysis and development include, but are not limited to:

 

Category Analysis

  • Analysis of sales & shopper data, identification of market shifts/trends that impact the business, and creation of actionable insights specific to individual retailer needs
  • Ability to drill down into retailer divisions/geo performance trends to create granular level stories that are compelling to McCain customers
  • Proactively develop tools and templates to simplify the analysis process as well as the output to the sales and marketing teams
  • Ad-Hoc business reporting as needed to answer time sensitive questions

 

Category Development

  • Work closely with sales and marketing teams to maximize the ongoing performance of the core range of products within retailers, drive consistent distribution growth and effectively deliver the brand plan
  • Build relationships and trust with key customers through presentations on core initiatives and platforms (attend Top to Tops, quarterly business reviews, and category reviews as subject matter expert)
  • Develop and implement shopper activation plans to realize category growth based on consumer, shopper and customer requirements and in line with McCain’s Category Vision

 

Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of category management strategy
  • Expertise on utilizing and leveraging syndicated databases, including customer-specific data and loyalty card analysis (e.g., IRI, Nielsen, Fresh Facts, Panel, Customer Specific, etc.) with region, retail and broker sales teams
  • Extensive experience with IRI or Nielsen required
  • Ability to build and deliver compelling presentations to customers that leverage data accurately and with credibility
  • Frequent interaction with customers and customer managers
  • Demonstrated track record of leading/working in cross-functional teams to achieve business results and proactively influence key stakeholders
  • Exceptional Excel & PowerPoint skills
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working as category manager for large CPG company
