Position Title: Food Safety & Quality Compliance Specialist

As a Food Safety and Quality Compliance Specialist, you will lead and support the development, execution and continuous improvement of programs to ensure compliance to the McCain Food Safety & Quality Management System and applicable external and regulatory standards.  You will monitor compliance to standards and support corrective and preventive actions for continuous improvement. Please note this role would require flexibility to travel upto 50% across North America.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

Compliance Programs

  • Support the development and ongoing execution of compliance management programs at the regional and plant levels.  
  • Work collaboratively with the compliance leads at the plants.
  • Regularly monitor internal processes and conduct audits to assess compliance with established food safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Establish measurements of compliance including KPIs (key process indicators).
  • Support action plans to close compliance gaps and non-conformances.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 

 

Audits

  • Coordinate scheduling of internal and external audits and maintain an annual schedule of audits.
  • Ensure compliance to routines for audit preparation and CAPA (corrective and preventive action) management for non-conformances.
  • Support on-site audits as required.

 

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, records, and reports related to Food Safety and Quality compliance activities.
  • Prepare reports on compliance status, audit findings, corrective actions, and quality performance metrics, highlighting areas for improvement and recommending strategies for enhancing compliance performance.
  • Oversee the documentation and record-keeping processes related to Food Safety and Quality compliance, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and accessibility of records.

 

Analysis & Continuous Improvement:

  • Analyze data, identify trends, and prepare reports and summaries.
  • Identify and share insights for continuous improvement initiatives to enhance systems, processes, and performance.
  • Review and analyze applicable standards pertaining to food safety, quality and regulatory compliance.  Determine the impact of changes in standards on FSQ programs; recommend and support revisions to McCain policies and procedures in response to changes in standards.
  • Execute internal programs to drive practical continuous improvement activities, ensuring facility compliance with internal policies, regulations, and external audit standards. 

 

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biological Sciences, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of  experience in quality program implementation and maintenance, along with strong knowledge of food safety and quality systems, continuous improvement, and problem-solving. 
  • Experience and working knowledge of HACCP/HARPC programs. The ability to assess and understand food safety risks. 
  • Auditing experience (internal, supplier or third party) and training is a plus. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Communication:  Effective verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey information, instructions, and guidelines to employees at all levels of the organization. Additionally, ability to communicate with external stakeholders.
  • Collaboration:  Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Building strong relationships and fostering teamwork will contribute to the overall success of the compliance program.
  • Attention to Detail:  Strong attention to detail for analysis of compliance data and development of reports.
  • Time Management:  The ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously is essential in this role.
  • Organization:  Ability to organize data, records and documentation to ensure security and efficient retrieval.
  • Adaptability:  Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
