Position Title: Electrical and Instrumentation Technician- B shift

Job Summary

Perform advanced maintenance procedures to all plant equipment including AC/DC control circuitry, programmable logic controllers, microprocessor controls, power distribution systems, computer hardware, line inspections, and preventative maintenance procedure from a checklist, minor mechanical adjustments and equipment/part replacement.  Routine maintenance to complex electrical troubleshooting and responsibility for calibrating, programming, installing and troubleshooting instrumentation such as temperature, pressure and level transmitters and control valves. This is a NIGHT shift role- 6 pm- 6 am on a rotating schedule. 

 

Job Functions

 

Essential Functions:

  • Perform maintenance procedure to computer hardware, AC/DC control circuitry, programmable logic controllers, microprocessor controls, and power distribution systems.
  • Run rigid conduit and pull wire.
  • Modify and design control circuitry for existing and new equipment.
  • Perform maintenance procedures by use of simple tools of various trades, hand tools, and welding equipment.
  • Lubricate all process equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance per standard procedures.
  • Report all equipment failures to appropriate supervisors in writing and verbally.
  • Perform and understand all fryer safety checks and fryer operations.
  • Perform basic electrical troubleshooting using appropriate electrical measuring instruments and electrical schematics.
  • Perform basic hydraulic troubleshooting, including aggressive leak control, piping selection, valve and motor operations.
  • Perform basic pneumatic troubleshooting, including aggressive leak control, appropriate usage of compressed air versus low pressure air.
  • Identify common minor problems and fix prior to becoming a major problem, including bearings, chains and sprockets, wire mesh and wear strips.
  • Interpret and understand the fault readings on controllers, PLC’s, and variable frequency drives, and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Maintain an understanding of plant refrigeration systems including freezer defrost procedures and batter make cryolators.
  • Perform basic welding procedures such as straight welds with stick or wire feed equipment.
  • Perform basic fabrication procedure including braking and shearing.
  • Perform basic machining procedures including late and milling machine set-up.
  • Maintain an orderly and sanitary work area at all times.
  • Utilize MNS computer maintenance system and E-Mail system.
  • Perform general building maintenance duties including miscellaneous plumbing, painting and repairs.
  • Prepare, read, write and understand routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to train and coach Maintenance Technicians.
  • Strictly adhere to all company and plant policies concerning safety, performing proper Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures, use proper lifting techniques, and wear all personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Adhere to company and plant polices related to GMP’s and assures compliance by all personnel within the department.
  • Uses complicated tools and instruments to operate, repair, adjust, troubleshoot, install, and fabricate electronic and electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Programs PLC’s, PC; specifically in relation to Allen Bradley equipment.
  • Designs and constructs controllers and circuit boards.
  • Provides technical expertise to Maintenance Technicians.
  • Properly cleans up repair area to prevent contamination and product damage.
  • Accurately completes required reports and records.
  • Understands the concepts and participates in the techniques of the quality process.
  • Perform work safely and in a timely manner.
  • Install power distribution lines and equipment.
  • Perform complex electrical repairs on equipment.
  • Mechanical duties such as the removal of large electrical devices, using material handling devices, repairing the devices and re-installing repaired/new devices/work safely, follow NEC code practices and OSHA regulations. 
  • Have working knowledge of NEC code, NFPA 70E, its interpretation and implementation
  • Provide feedback for engineers to help modify existing equipment and improve the design of future equipment
  • Must have working knowledge of RS Logix and/or C Logix
  • Troubleshoot control systems throughout the factory.
  • Make repairs as required.
  • Respond to trouble calls quickly.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.   1. Mental
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and related experience. Certification and/or Associate Degree in Electronics or Industrial Electrician Degree and/or Computer Hardware Electronics preferred.
  • Must have completed required level of TPC training modules.
  • Must be able to read and interpret detailed electrical schematics, sketches, layouts and specifications.
  • Must have ability to read and interpret company policy and procedure, safety rules, equipment operation and maintenance instructions.
  • Must have ability to prepare, read, write and understand routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must have prior knowledge of electronics, refrigeration, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and troubleshooting techniques.
