Product Development Manager, Branded & Private-Label Appetizer Portfolio – Americas R&D

The Product Development Manager is responsible for leading the PD team.  This team develops, renovates and commercializes our branded appetizer Food Service, and private-label retail product portfolios.  The product portfolio is sold across the U.S., Canada and into export markets such as Japan and Australia.  Experience with people management, innovation management, product design and scale-up.  

 

Core Accountabilities:

 

  • In partnership with marketing partners, identify and deliver the innovation and renovation pipeline to enable double-digit growth of our appetizer business.
  • Develop pipeline of early-stage concepts and prototypes, in partnership with Marketing and Culinary teams.  This job will require understanding of initial concept & prototype design, Design-of-experiment (DOE) development, and manufacturing scale-up utilizing lab and pilot plan scale.
  • Identify product propositions against consumer trends and turn them into mass market offerings while leveraging the operational network of internal manufacturing and external partners.
  • Create/manage McCain branded concepts from ideation to full commercialization utilizing the Stage Gate process and through partnership with business development teams.
  • Develop and coach direct team and other members of the broader R&D team.
  • Connect internationally with peer teams in Europe, Asia and Australia to share ideas, pipeline and best practices.
  • Manage customer expectations in relation to new product development, while ensuring customer satisfaction for delivery.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or Food Engineering, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in the Food and Beverage industry with a minimum of 3 years of managerial or supervisory experience.
  • Record of having led transformative initiatives, demonstrating an ability to influence the business to achieve positive results.
  • Candidates must have hands on approach; demonstrate a strong intellect and proficient skills in communications, combined with a drive to deliver results.
  • Ability to influence key stakeholders and peers. Ability to stand alone, set clear standards and hold other accountable to a critical requirement. Courage to have difficult discussions with groups from all level of the organization. 
  • Excellent communication skills: is able to effectively and persuasively articulate positions both verbally and in electronic mediums to various audiences including senior executives in a clear, concise and compelling manner.  
  • Strong team player, highly motivated, who can effectively interface with and present results to all levels of management and teams across the business.
